Pass-by-reference parameters must be declared when the function is declared, by placing an & before the parameter's name, as in the example below.

Passing a parameter by reference when it has not been declared
as a reference parameter, called call-time
pass-by-reference has been deprecated in Zend PHP for
several years now. As such, it is not supported by Roadsend PHP.
