PartView VIII (v 1.0.0.9)
-----------------------
Partview lets you to see the real filenames of all
the files in your edonkey temp folder simultaneously.

It lists the numbers of the part.met files against the
original filenames as well as sizes, bytes transferred,
format and part name.

It will copy out and rename part files (one at a time)
for previewing in a separate folder, when you select a
file from the list and click on the "View" button.

Getting Started
===============
On startup, choose "File|Locate Edonkey Temp Folder"
to set the path to your Edonkey Temp folder.

The default folder for copying files to be viewed is the
Windows Temp folder. This can be set to a different
location with "File|Set Copy Folder for Viewing"

The "Refresh" button can be used to update the list
if files are removed or added to the temp folder
while PartView is open.

To preview media files you must have downloaded at least the
very beginning of the file (the header). For Some avi files
you may also need the very end of the file (the tail).

Fron version VIII of partview onwards you can change
how the .part file is copied. The default copy mode is
"Copy First Block". If you want to set a different copy
mode use "File|Set Copy Mode". The copy modes can also be
changed using the Copy Method Button (see below);

Buttons
=======
There are eight buttons on the central panel .

View Copies the part file to the destination folder and
             launches it's associated viewer. For media files
             Microsoft Mediaplayer II is recommended.

Copy Just copies the file and opens an Explorer window on the
             destination folder.

Refresh Allows you to update the listview (the main file
             information display) if additional files have been added
             or removed from the eDonkey temp folder.

Orphans Lists any files in the eDonkey temp folder not accounted
             for by the Listview display in Partview.

Dest Opens an Explorer Window on the folder where files are
             copied to.

Source Opens an Explorer Window on the eDonkey temp folder
             where files are copied from.

Copy Method is located at the bottom left hand edge of the central panel.
             Each time you click on this button a new Method of copying
             out the part files is chosen (see Copy Modes below).

Copy modes
==========

   Copy First Block
   ----------------------------------
   This mode copies the data from the beginning of the file up to
   the start of the first gap.

   Copy Whole File
   --------------------
   This is the method used by partview on versions prior to version VIII.
   It just just copies the whole file exactly the way it is.

   Copy file Skip Gaps
   -------------------
   This mode Copies the entire file but leaves out the gaps.
   The output file contains only data belonging to the file.
   Unfortunately with this mode, some formats loose synchronisation
   on playback and just skip to the end of the file after the first
   block has been played.

   Copy file fill Gaps with Zero
   -----------------------------
   This mode fills the gaps between data blocks with zeros. This means
   the viewer is less likely to crash when playing over empty areas of
   the file. This mode is faster than copying the raw file because the
   input file does not get copied during the time that the output file
   is being zero filled.

Listview Columns
================
There are 7 columns in the Listview (top half of partview).

Met File This is the name of the part.met file from which the
            information in partview is obtained.

File Name This is the original name of the part file
Size This is the size the part file will finally have
            once downloaded.

Transferred This fugure is the bytes transferred so far.

Format is the kind of file the part contais. It should be the
            same as the file extension (mpg, avi etc). This column
            is useful because filenames can be very long.

Part No. This is the expected name of the .part file found
            inside the part.met file. If you were to rename the
            .part file, this number would not match.

Paused If you set a file as paused in edonkey the word
            "paused" appears in this column. This lets you mark
            files in eDonkey for copying or moving using partview.

ListView PopupMenu
==================
The right click context menu of the Listview allows you to select
one or more lines in the listview and perform the following operations:

Move Move a .part file and it's part.met file to another folder.
Copy Copy a .part file and it's part.met file to another folder.
Delete Delete both the .part file and the part.met file.

All function go via an intermediate dialog so you can check them out
without danger. Move and delete should only be available when eDonkey
is not running.

CheckBoxes
==========
Stay On Top Allows Partview to remain in front of all other
             applications (eDonkey for example) in windows.

Rev Orphan Check
             Modifies the "Orphans" button so that it looks
             for part.met files for which no .part files exist.
             This situation is normal if you have just downloaded
             a file, however if you cancel a move or delete operation
             (see ListView Popupmenu) you can end up separating the
             .part file from the part.met file.

Partview.dat
============
PartView.dat is a crude .ini file. It holds the various paths
and size/position information that need to be remembered between
sessions (eg the path to the eDonkey temp folder, window size,
location of the horizontal splitter etc). If the information gets
corrupted, Partview should reset to default values. However if
things do screw up rotten, just delete partview.dat. Partview
will rebuild it with sensible values at next use.

Disclaimer
==========
I have tested this version with eDonkey still running, but I cannot
vouch for it being safe on everybody's system. As with the previous
version I suggest you should use it when eDonkey is resting :-)

Important
=========
This file will only be available on eDonkey. If you find it useful
then please share it to keep it available . If you do share Partview
then please share the zipped version. This will ensure that these
instructions remain with the file and so help others who may be
first time users.

You can also view these instruction by selecting

Help|View Readme.txt

from Partview's main menu, provided that the readme.txt file is
located in the same folder as partview.exe.

Happy Downloading,
